Our Economic Hub welcomes Deep Sky and Skyrenu to its network!

Thetford Mines, February 5, 2025 – The Chaudière-Appalaches Green Economic Hub (CAGEH) is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to its network: Deep Sky and Les technologies Skyrenu inc.. These two innovative companies are joining a growing group of companies that showcase Quebec innovation and technology to fully exploit the potential of the region's mine tailings while contributing to the fight against climate change.

Skyrenu Technologies Inc. (Skyrenu), a company founded in Quebec in 2021, has a mission to help end the climate crisis by capturing and sequestering greenhouse gases. Skyrenu has developed an innovative direct air capture system that uses an inexpensive and environmentally friendly solid adsorbent in a cycle that minimizes energy demand to reduce capture costs. This system captures CO2 directly from the atmosphere. Skyrenu is among the 20 finalists of the prestigious international XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition. The company aims to deploy a commercial installation on the Normandie mine site for direct CO2 capture combined with sequestration technology that revalues mining residues.

Based in Quebec, Deep Sky brings together under one roof the most promising companies in direct carbon capture in the air and oceans in order to bring to market the largest number of high-quality carbon credits. In Thetford Mines, Deep Sky wants to evaluate the feasibility of in situ mineralization, a process by which CO2 is injected into rocky soils that react by converting the CO2 into rock. Mineralization perpetuates storage and allows for real-time monitoring of the CO2 removed from the atmosphere, which transforms into rock underground. The company aims to collaborate, among others, with Skyrenu for the capture of CO2 in the air.

These two companies will contribute to strengthening PEVCA's expertise and contribution within the region's mining waste recovery ecosystem. Their membership marks an important step in the development of PEVCA, which aims to promote environmentally friendly industrial initiatives that support the region's energy transition.
